Woman In Black

The setting of Madeleine St John’s first novel, The Women in Black (1993), is the Ladies’ Cocktail Frocks and Modal Gowns section of David Jones in the 1950s. Bruce Beresford directed the film adaptation a few years ago.

DJ’s helpful staff still wear black. The staff member pictured established that they did have what I wanted, disappeared out the back and then searched the racks until she found it.
