Sands of Wright
A much better day for weather; calm and sunny even if the wind was cold. We decided to do a bit of the craft trail and drove over to the Sheila Fleet jewellery workshop at Tankerness. W has several of her pieces and it is always a good fall-back for presents. From there we drove over the Churchill Barriers to South Ronaldsay where we visited the Hoxa Tapestry Gallery. The tapestries are superb but well out of our price range but we did end up buying a couple of prints. On the way back we stopped off at this beach, the Sands of Wright; a lovely sandy beach which was all but deserted.
We then doubled back on ourselves and headed for The Gloup on Deerness; a collapsed sea cave which is quite spectacular but difficult to photograph well due to bright light and shadows. There were quite a few nesting Kittiwakes and a group of Shags on the cliff top. Finally, back to the house after a long but enjoyable day.
