Tiny tadpoles

10 days ago we saw a male and female toad in the garden and then in the pond. The next day there were "necklaces" of tiny black eggs embedded in long strands of spawn.

Today there are hundreds of tadpoles all around the pond edge in shallow and probably the warmest water. This is quite exciting as it is the first year of our pond.

What is amazing is the fact that  a pair of toads found a new pond, climbed in and laid the spawn. Do toads have water orientated sat nav?
