In my neighborhood
I live south of Stockholm city in Gamla Enskede. Inspired by English garden citys it was here one build Swedens first garden city. One of the original ideas about the garden city was that it would be virtually self-sufficient. In Gamla Enskede there was everything you could need, both goods and services within walking distance. As recently as the 1940s, there were over 100 different shops and businesses in the area.
In this hous "Handelshuset" for example, there were three dairy shops, a shoemaker, a hairdresser, a grocery store, a watchmaking shop, a tobacco shop and a sewing shop.
