A Surrey mansion

This is the entrance to Homewood Park, a parkland area to the rear of St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey. In the distance is Botleys Manor, a Grade 2* listed building. It was built in the 18th century by a London brewer. It was bought by Surrey County Council in 1929 and became, with its surrounding parkland, the location for Botleys Colony, the disgraceful term in use those days for accommodating people with learning disabilities. The mansion eventually became a nurses' home and then fell into disuse before closing in 1997. It was subsequently sold and is now used as a hospitality venue, as can be seen from the people in the distance on the terrace.
