Delabole (Dell a Bowl)

Slate from Delabole is highly prized. Here you can see the layers or strata making up a tiny corner of a piece of slate. The orange section was invisible until I picked up the corner and it sheared away exposing the beautiful colours underneath.

I'm fascinated at the number of tides, layers of suspended silt and compression plus of course millennia that it has taken to create such an extraordinary piece of stone which will be discarded in an instant.
