Foliage Friday @ No 93
I struck gold with researching this house because it is a listed historic place. To quote: A reminder of the Richmond area's former horticultural focus. It was a homestead for families working the orchards planted here. It has architectural values as a good example of a modest Victorian homestead.
In 1871 this block of land was first owned by early settler, explorer, and surveyor Thomas Brunner who is a well know know name in New Zealand. After him the Eyles family bought the land in 1875 and built the homestead. William Eyles was an agricultural labourer when he arrived in 1842. I think this house would have been a demonstration of his success after 30 years he has an orchard and homestead. The land remained as orchard until the late 1990's when the housing started going in.
Autumn Leaves Composer: Joseph Kosma, English Lyrics: Johnny Mercer
The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold
I see your lips the summer kisses
The sunburned hands I used to hold
Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I'll hear old winter's song
But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall
