Ham and Bean Soup for a Rainy Day
And then we moved into a rainy system, in which it would rain pretty much nonstop for two days straight and prompt a bunch of flood advisories before it was done. April showers bring May flowers, or so they say. But what do May showers bring?
My husband moved the hummingbird feeder off the clothes line over the deck and hung it from a lamp right outside the deck doors, under the overhang of the roof. While the little male ruby throat who's our most loyal customer took a minute to find it, in the end, he spent hours sitting on it, taking shelter from the rain.
And as for myself, I made ham and bean soup in a crock pot. I did not have a ham bone this time, so it is not officially ham bone soup, but it had everything else that might make it so! Five hours in the crock pot on high, and we had soup to brighten up a rainy day (and plenty left for later)!!!
Here's a little rainy day jam music, courtesy of the Go-Go's: Automatic Rainy Day. One of my favorite stories about the Go-Go's is this one: they partied so heavily back in the day that Ozzy Osbourne threw them out of his dressing room! That story and more can be found here: "Their lips may have been sealed, but their nostrils were wide open." Still more stories: here.
