Tobar Bridghe
Just staggered in from a very big day out - feeling much better, thank you all for your concern and no chills caught! I recently received an invitation to go and peruse an unrecorded well in North Cork, how could I refuse. Himself decided to come too and we hurtled up the M8 to Kilworth where Lucy and Noel gave us a very warm welcome and a sumptuous lunch. The well was in the woods which were looking beautiful - a small river running through them and bluebells everywhere. The well was small, unassuming, and pristine - the water cold clear and percolating. It looked authentic but no one seemed to know it as holy but a passing lady told us it was excellent for making tea. Hmm, no self respecting holy well, especially in North Cork, allows its water to boil so a decent cuppa is impossible! More research needed. Lucy is an ecological philosopher and Noel a local historian so there was a lot to talk about!
Enroute home we took a quick diversion to look at another well, last visited in 2016. Its two majestic trees, a beech and a sycamore, were just coming into leaf - the well even emerges at the foot of the beech tree. We paid our respects then searched for a stone said to bear the saintly knees - no luck there.
Home and large glass of wine and beans on toast.
