It may actually happen
The Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) is due to open on 24th May and our nearest station (Farringdon) unveiled its signs this weekend. I feel as if I have spent most of my working life waiting for Crossrail to open. We bought a house in Ealing in the early 1980s because once Crossrail opened it would be 15 minutes to either Central London or Heathrow. We gave up waiting in 2004 and moved into a small flat in Covent Garden. In 2009 when we wanted more space (i.e. a second bedroom) we moved to Farringdon. One of the attractions was that once Crossrail was open it would be 5 minutes to Bond Street and 25 minutes to Heathrow. It's still only opening over part of its route, Bond Street station isn't finished yet, and you will still have to change trains to get to Heathrow. One day it will be wonderful, possibly in my lifetime!
