There promises to be a good supply of holly berries later judging by the number of flowers and there are plenty of male and female trees nearby to make it possible. The photo shows male flowers with pollen on the end of their short stamens with (extra) the female flowers showing the swollen ovary which will develop into a berry.  I was collecting holly to hinder the neighbour’s cat which walks along the fence then climbs down to sit on the blue tit’s nesting box and puts her paw in.  She has managed to negotiate the plastic spikes on the fence by walking along the back and now there seem to be no spikes anywhere in the local stores but a man at the local garden centre suggested carpet tread rods.  Meanwhile the holly is now draped all around the nesting box.
