Drip Dry
Slept through rainstorms and gales beating the caravan sides. Heavy showers. Bright sunshine. Dead badger slumped on the verge at the roadside. Contrails shifting sideways across the sky. Daisy heads appeared. Hazel buds bursting into leaf. Hailstones. Check plants. Everything survived the winter apart from an aquilegia, which has disappeared, and a variegated (now frost-blackened) sage. Pair of robins on the grass eating breadcrumbs. Only time of the year you see them so close together. Start reading new Granta (Best of Young British Novelists), from the back. First story: Ross Raisin's Submersion. Great story, very appropriate.
