Fuel production facility, interior
In this building the special fuels were prepared. It may seem surprising that much of the internal structure of the building is wood: however wood is not subject to corrosion in the way steel is. This was obviously a considerable advantage given the nature of the fuels: the vehicles themselves used tanks made of a special, undisclosed, alloy of titanium, but this was far too expensive to use in bulk.
Again, the site seems in remarkably good condition given it has been abandoned – they say – for more than four decades.
I expect a direct encounter with the current occupants of the site momentarily.
