A Suitor

The excitement never stops here on Wildwood Trail. This fellow was peering in our front door this morning. He was either admiring himself or thought here was a rival in there because he started pecking at the glass in the front door.  (Turkeys must have very small brains, because they really aren't very bright.) He revealed a couple of nasty looking wounds on his chest in the process, so perhaps he has been ejected from the flock as well. I opened the door a little and he wandered off in pursuit of Jake (Jackie?) who had disappeared around the corner of the house a little earlier.

A tom turkey's plumage is very impressive. His head is just plain weird. He was certainly getting his back feathers up, making him look quite large, but he wasn't quite achieving lift-off of his tail. Perhaps he wasn't really trying...

We decided to risk the evil grasses and take Spike on the Spike Walk. Because of the rain and the fact that I was out getting too much exercise, he hasn't gotten enough.  We kept him on a leash passing the worst of the grass and because they are now getting dry they are more wicked as projectiles aimed at his ears and nose, but less attractive as a snack. The meadow was blessedly free of burrs and foxtails and he ran around like a mad thing, enjoying life in his element.

I finally got around to cleaning the grout in the bathroom, telling myself I wouldn't do it for more than half an hour at a time. It was less than that because even the trusty toothbrush and cleanser paste method was only moderately effective, so I skipped the bits that didn't look that dirty. Those bits really stood out when I went back to look at it later, but to paraphrase the deathless prose of my father's mechanic, it shows I worked on it....
