Il Deserto Rosso

Having had a "Vietnam" experience in my 20's (something I didn't realise was pretty much standard fare for the young, male moviegoer) I've in the last two years become obsessed by Italian films by directors like De Sica, Fellini, Bertolucci and Antonioni.

It all sounds pretty pretentious, I know, but I really do enjoy most of their stuff - I even like that most of the actors lips move at different times to the dialogue.

The music can be pretty trying at times too.

However, it's the images that remain in the mind long after the film is over that keeps me interested.

Il Deserto rosso is by Antonioni and these frames down at the harbour reminded me of that movie.

...or is it Fellini's 8 1/2?
