Sgwarnog: In the Field

Feathered

An extended walk on the moor gave me a chance to visit the further haunts of the Green Hairstreak butterfly. It was warm and sunny, but quite breezy on top so there weren’t as many about as I’d hoped, but I did find a dozen or so across a broad area including a par “in cop” - extra.

Also frequenting the bilberry bushes were plenty of these Common Heath moths, with their impressive feathered antennae. Small Tortoiseshell, Green-veined White, Small, White, Orange-tip and my first Wall butterflies of the year were also about, along with various longhorn moths and Brown Silver-line.

Overhead, a Red Kite joined me in scanning the moor, and a female Stonechat (extra) warned me away.
