Dumped

Walked over to the rugby ground today. From the bridge over the river I saw, amongst the trolleys, road signs and other rubbish, this bike.  There now follows a rant so don't bother to read on if you aren't interested.

The river is still tidal at this point. At low tide it's possible to see a whole lot of rubbish, such as this, dumped in the river. It looks awful and I can't think it does much to support a healthy water environment. In the past, members of the local rowing club have taken trolleys etc out of the river. When the first lockdown occurred and no-one was out on the river for months the trolley removal stopped. It quickly became clear that the rowers had kept on top of a problem.

The Community Council, of which I'm a member, has made several representations to local supermarkets, the local authority and SEPA about the rubbish in the water. Each organisation claims to have no responsibility or authority to remove these objects and tends to point at the others. The ownership of the riverbed is in dispute anyway. Possibly the Crown? The local authority doesn't know who owns it except that it's not its responsibility. A land registry search costs money which the CC doesn't have.

Meanwhile the rubbish piles up. End of rant.

Hope your Sunday is going well.
