5.30am start to the day.
Part 1 of breakfast then saw Mr Rat's race get underway at 7am with the weather cool and grey.
Part 2 breakfast then took down the tent.
Short run up the valley (plus an ankle-deep ford of the burn) and return for dry footwear.
Trip down the valley to marshalling point at 38.5miles, with 3 others.
Welcomed runners, gave them their "drop bags", filled water containers and encouraged them on their way to the next checkpoint (and everyone made it to the next one).
Mr Rat came through about 2/3 down the field, not long after the 1st VM60, and was sent on his way after the photoshoot (he found the next section the hardest).
Once all were through by 5pm we returned to base for soup and then out to watch people finishing the last, over-the-hill stage. Our vantage point enabled us to see them approaching so they all got a cheer - needed to get over the very steep, hump-backed bridge just before the field - and Mr Rat arrived back before 9pm in 46th place, having overtaken 5 people going up the final hill and so having 20 behind him, but still a little behind the age group winner, and h aving done nearly 56 miles.
More soup and home for a not-early night.
I do have a pic of him at the finish but this is a better one.
