Glencaple
Today's the day ....................to treat
Emergency treatment for Will this morning at the Dental Hospital in Dumfries - so not the best way to start the day.
But they looked after him very well and he was so pleased that someone would actually sort him out (lots of problems with finding a dentist in Dumfries & Galloway, made worse by the recent pandemic). So because we were over that way, we thought we would treat ourselves to lunch in The Boathouse at Glencaple.
It was, of course, rather an unrealistic hope that there would be a free table at this very popular place on a fine Sunday lunchtime - and so it proved. But we bought some food in their shop instead and turned it into a picnic down at the Quay. Glencaple is situated on the estuary of the River Nith and once had a thriving and important ship-building industry. It also served as the port for Dumfries, further upstream on the River Nith.
This is the view looking downstream out to the Solway Firth, with the granite pluton of Criffel (1868ft) in the far distance .................... .
