A New Way

We had no intention of climbing Penniel Heugh today - we were on our way to walk a section of Dere Street - but I spotted a previously unnoticed signboard amongst the trees, and a map of a (fairly) recently opened trail. 

We found ourselves approaching the tower by a direct (ie steep) route - but it didn't take long. Just as well, as the sunshine was rapidly being replaced by cloud sweeping in (extra). 

We didn't have the key, so couldn't climb the tower. (It's a memorial to the Duke of Wellington and the soldiers who fought at Waterloo.)  I doubt if we'd have seen much for the haze.
