Why is both Merrick and his coach smiling?

He had just roared into 3rd base, and there was going to be a play on him. And, he slid. HE SLID! He has been avoiding it all season, but sometimes...you need to hit the dirt.

He ended up sliding into 3rd after a nice sharp single.

His team went down to a big defeat.We are having pitching problems. In one inning, the other team didn't get one hit. Our pitchers (3 of them) walked in 7 runs. 7 RUNS!
