Useful excercises

Working out the tones within colours when painting in watercolour is critical. This was a brilliantly useful excercise from painting with really thick paint in various colour combinations to give a dark tones through the medium tones using more water into the lightest of light colours.  Having made the squares using watercolour I took a photo and turned into a monochrome to find out how they worked... not too bad on the whole. Reds are had to judge so the addition of water is essential to lighten is as it is very likely to become too strong.
