Lest We Forget
Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium has metal post standing along the walk into the cemetery. Each represents a day during WW1 and each notch cut into the post represents a soldier who arrived at the local casualty clearing hospitals alive but didn’t survive much longer. Some days were quiet, others not so. In all 10124 notches have been cut out from these post.
It is hard to show what this represents in an image but if you care to look at my extra you’ll get a feeling of what about 2/3rds of this number looks like.
Matilda has preformed excellently and we are now in Ypres for a few nights. We will be exploring Flanders Fields together. At the hotel near Folkestone last night she spent the night with some toy boys. At least 12 of these McLarens, which start at £150000 each, were on our shuttle train. Needless to say Matilda is priceless… ;o)
