The eel economy

A grebe catching an eel up by the impounding sluice. There was a time when eels were a major part of the economy around here. There is record of a combined rental payment of 60,000 eels payed by 20 fishermen from Outwell and Upwell to Ramsey Monastery in the year 974 AD.
