All in a Days Work

In Birmingham to take Ruth to a much postponed hospital appointment this morning.   We'd at last found a date when I could be there to take her.   It went well.   We packed a lot around it, so it's been a good day, even though the gas engineer booked to do a free gas safety check this afternoon, arrived just as we were leaving this morning :-/

The main event was the completion of Ruth's first raised bed for growing vegetables.   She's bought pallet collars, painted them with wood treatment and had pallets collected from a local source.  So here is the first one complete, sitting on the pallet.   My main role today was to collect free soil being offered nearby.   Two trips, multiple bags and buckets each time.   It takes a lot of soil to fill a bed this size - and hopefully we have enough left over to fill another bed.   Two raised bed liners inside plus space for a few pots (sitting on old decking timbers Ruth cut up) along the far edge.  We topped the fill with some commercial topsoil and are looking forward to seeing how things grow there.   First planting next week as Ruth has returned to Wales with me for a few days.
