Pillbox View
Our first walk of the week is one straight from the cottage so we don't have to drive. We visited St Cuthbert's Cave (see extra), and were surprised by the number of trees that had come down in Storm Arwen earlier this year. Our cottage hosts said that was quite common all over the local area.
From here we walked over to Bowden Doors, a well-known climbing crag. And we did see some climbers.
Here was my find of the day - a pair of Green Tiger Beetles (see extra) in a mating clinch.
To return back to our cottage we had planned a circular route but got beaten back by trees that had been felled by the storm mentioned above, so we had to retrace our steps. It was around 9 miles in total. A good start to the week.
We heard our first cuckoo of the year too.
Even better is the view from the cottage towards Lindisfarne to just look at and relax. From here we can see plenty of wildlife and it seemed to be the time of the hares in the ploughed field next door.
