Orchard

These are trees I planted in our first year here but I think this is the first time I have seen an entire row in bloom. This probably isn't an ideal place for an orchard but there is a layer of clay, well below the surface which probably helps. The soil is otherwise very sandy. The main initial scourge of our orchard was Mr Hare who rather systematically trimmed back what was otherwise a good start. However, we seem to have survived that phase and, all being well, there should be a few apples. We are still waiting for greengages and pears.
