Southport, UK Pier

There's something about British Seaside Piers.

Many British Piers were built during the nineteenth century and have now fallen into disrepair or simply collapsed and disappeared! However, some have survived and been refurbished and modernised at costs of millions of £s, as has this one at Southport.

Perhaps, because of their histories and their nostalic pasts . . . whether they have been refurbished or even rebuilt; there always seems, to me, to be elements of sadness about our old piers.
