In a restaurant in a West End town
I worked from home today.
I had one of those days yesterday in the office where I questioned everything, I did.
I thought I had over-paid someone. I thought I had underpaid someone. I got annoyed because the person I thought I had overpaid hadn't told me. I wondered why the person I had underpaid, hadn't asked me.
So I sat in the quiet of the front room today, went back through all my calculations, reassured myself that all was good, and finished them off, and then posted the pensions.
Then I found something else to occupy my time until 1700 - i only had an hour, and there is always plenty to do.
Himself had a day off - he spent the morning at the allotment and in the afternoon, after partaking in a crappy film, he started tidying the dining room, after the re-shuffle for painting.
he has decided he likes the sofa in the corner, looking out the window, and could quite happily have dozed there for the rest of the evening I think.
I was itching for some fresh air - so we went out for a walk after dinner, we parked at the South Beach and walked along to West Portland Street, and examined the Fox. A new Pub which we have not yet ventured into. The bouncer on the door, told us "it's no the same any mair".
"in the old days, thur was the Anchorage - aw. Sunday afternoon discos... The Bruce, and if either of thaim wisnae open we could head to the Covenanters..."
Oh god. I looked at him and searched for some recognition in his face. He did all the things I did, but I was looking at an old man. A man who most definitely should not have been sorting our patrons on the door, regardless of hardness.
I walked away happily when he said, "old age, it'll come to you".
We perused the new work on our favourite eatery. Lido.
It closed down - (we can't remember if it was just saturday there, or saturday before), for a "facelift". It seemed to come very much out of the blue. We were astonished to see that they were basically polishing the place and putting it back together again.
The paintwork has been refreshed - crazy bright rainbow colours, and the seating has been re-upholstered in the same bright palette. But yes, it's done. Must pop in shortly for a look see.
We walked back along the beach, and wondered at not having gone on the Big Wheel before it was taken down. That happened last Saturday and without any notice. Apparently the council only gave them 6 weeks approval.
It's going to Largs now.
On the way home On the radio - I heard the announcer tell me that ABC were heading out on an Anniversary Tour. Playing Lexicon of love. I sat and contemplated. How could it possibly be the 40th Anniversary... How?
and I looked at himself, and though. Shit, We've nearly been together 40 years.
Where the hell does the time go?
