Poor baby!

My neighbours noticed this baby magpie on the road beside our front garden. We have a magpie nest in a tall conifer and we guessed it had come from there, whither it fell out, was predated out by a big crow or was trying to fledge we don’t know.
He was brought back into our front garden and we hoped the adults would find him. I phoned the RSPB who told me just to keep an eye on him. We kept checking on him, hoping our cats would not find him. Hours later both parents returned and obviously saw him , but I’m not quite sure what ,if anything, they can do - other than chase away predators and feed him. I don’t rate its chances. Poor baby!
