7 pigeons
The old flour mill in the middle of the village is home to mice, rats and feral cats. And also to a large flock of rock pigeons.
On calm days they line up on the highest points of the buildings. When it’s windy or wet they get though the many holes in the eaves and the roofs to find shelter.
It was forecast to be windy today, but we barely saw a gust.
One of the day’s tasks was to mow up a huge pile of old veg plants ready to go onto the compost heap. It’s a great way to help the compost along: the smaller the pieces the better they break down thanks to the greater surface area. Another option is to use a chipper, but the mower does the trick nicely.
The boysenberry briar was pruned this afternoon. I’ve got it done earlier than last year, which I hope will give next season’s fruit-bearing branches a longer growing season. They have healthy-looking shoots already.
A good day :-)
