Alliums
I read that there are 850 species. They are easy to grow and put on a good show.
These were at our local garden centre where we were pleased to find a good selection of peat free potting composts. Over several decades far too many of our peat bog habitats have been lost to commercial exploitation. This has resulted in the loss of many specialist plants and insects which live in these places.
Earlier we had been to our large household waste disposal centre where I am depressed by the sight of huge skips loaded with old kettles, toasters, printers, microwaves, radios and many more things. Of course we are as guilty as anyone else having taken a printer there not long ago.
But a large part of what is there is plastic which will not be recycled.
