Dorset delights

We have spent a glorious day on the Dorset coast  with members of our local RSPB group. We try to come here every May, and it is always a real treat, especially if the weather is as good as it was today.. We met at Worth Matravers, and walked down  a wooded  valley to  sea cliffs and an old quarry at  Winspit. Along  the way we saw and heard Chiffchaff, Whitethroat, Blackcap and  Yellowhammer. At Winspit (first extra shows Winspit  viewed from above and looking back) we saw a few Rock Pipits, and  a Gannet out at sea. Then we walked up a  steep path out of the valley and  along the  coastal path to Dancing Ledge, shown in the main photo. The sea was very calm, and  the air was pleasantly warm. We saw further Gannets flying over the water, Guillemots and  Razorbills in the sea, but sadly no Puffins. Meanwhile, over the land, Skylarks soared  and trilled. Then we turned inland and walked back to Worth Matravers. The second extra shows the  view looking towards Swanage and Ballard Down, with the Isle  of Wight just  visible. We came across an old quarry where dinosaur footprints were discovered and are now on public display. We enjoyed a drink at the Square  and Compass pub in the village, before going our separate ways.Martin and I  went to Swanage with our friend  L who has a holiday flat there, and joined her and P for fish and chips  before  we returned  home. As we left L&P's flat, a squadron of about  a dozen Swifts gave us an aerial display, squealing as they flew overhead.
