Cape Disappointment
We hadn’t been to Cape Disappointment for years; kept getting our stories and memories mixed up as we walked the trails; I mean, it’s not as though if you’ve seen one lighthouse in a beautiful setting, you’ve seen them all, but memories are capricious.
Very few people around, but we met a man walking away from the lighthouse who asked if we figured it weighed a lot. Sure, we replied, wondering if we should make a guess, maybe. A strange question, but he followed it with another: "Then why is it called a lighthouse?" Gotcha!
The drive through a wildlife refuge along the south end of nearby Long Island also brought back memories. In about 1993, we canoed around the large island, camping overnight about half-way; the next morning we got stranded in the mud, not having anticipated the tides right. It was all great fun.
The Extra is a Salmonberry fruit and bloom.
