Winter in May

I was waiting for a ferry yesterday morning and heard someone in the queue complaining , amidst the rain and wind, that it was "winter in May".

That is certainly born out by the colour contrast here, which caught my eye as I was driving from Colintraive after a lunchtime meeting.   Last year's dead bracken hasn't yet been replaced by new growth, yet the rhododendrons are beginning to flower. 

Better weather forecast for the coming few days though.
