Going…going…..

The end of the General Assembly is not marked with the ringing of the gong. Instead the key figures and the Moderator and Lord High Commissioner are clapped out down the steps of the Assembly Hall to the Mound and then, for those returning, clapped back in.

The gong is used to signal that the Moderator is about to enter the hall to begin sessions in the proceedings. If you are not aware it is about to be struck it can make you jump as it is hit forcefully.

The evening was spent with good friends visiting Edinburgh. So nice to catch up and chat and go out for a meal without fretting about Covid passports etc.
