Corfu Town
We had a few hours last night and this morning to explore. It looked like a really beautiful place with an old town , fortress, harbour , Jewish quarter etc. Corfu was never occupied by the Ottoman Empire and has strong Italian influences. We wandered around the quaint alleys, discovering pretty squares and trying to decide where to have dinner. We chose here “ Marina’s” because the menu was limited ( not aimed at tourists) and different and weren’t disappointed. I had a Fava bean purée with caramelised onions and capers to start, then roasted aubergine with tomato sauce and feta cheese melting on the top. Just when we thought we couldn’t eat any more, the owner suggested kumquat cake( a local specialty as kumquats grow all over the island. ) Imagine the moistest orange drizzle cake ever….Delicious!
So now we’re home and missing the wonderful Corfu weather and hospitality. At least it isn’t raining, although I do have to cook dinner :(
