On the up and up

We said goodbye to the cats this morning and drove to Falkirk, picking up Daughter Two at the station. Went on to the Falkirk Wheel, something we've been planning to see for a long time.

It's the most amazing structure, lifting boats from the Forth and Clyde Canal to the Union Canal by means of a huge rotating wheel, with two caissons which carry the floating boats. It's the first and only one in the world!

Our ticket gave us not only a turn on the wheel, but a short ride across the viaduct, through a tunnel and return. Quite an experience!
