‘’Sucking a Slice of Lemon’
Spent the day in Glasgow with the grandchildren. Paul had just received his latest ‘Tinker Box’ from an excellent American education project company called KiwiCo.
Each month, they send out a box containing the
materials with which to create a creative, innovative STEM project, along with detailed instructions and a number of additional experiments to try. All backed up with online video tutorials.
This month’s was construct a model Ballista. A ballista is a bit like a catapult used for launching stones and other missiles (its at the origin of the word ‘ballistic’) and used as a siege weapon. Unlike a catapult, however, it uses torsion springs for propulsion. (Extra)
We found it quite tricky to get the tension right, so after we’d finished, we rewarded ourselves by going for lunch at a nearby cafe. Todays blip was taken as we were finishing our meal and Paul asked to have the slice of lemon that was left in my fizzy water to dip in his dessert….
Then we had to rush back home to get him to a friends 10th birthday party, followed by ballet - what a busy life they lead!
