Cuckoos!!
It poured with rain all morning.. We decided to go to RSPB Gruinard again, at least we could sit in the hides.
I was driving along when F suddenly shouted out "What are those? Cuckoos!!" Flying along the treeline together were four cuckoos. Luckily one decided to perch on a post for a few minutes which gave me chance to photograph three of them together. I haven't seen one cuckoo for years so four together was amazing!
We drove to the RSPB visitor's centre where we chatted to the lady there and told her about the cuckoos. We then ate our food before going on the trail. The rain had stopped and the sun come out so we had timed it right. We went to the hides. There was nothing out of the ordinary to see but we did see sedge warblers and heard a number of corncrakes calling. Unfortunately we didn't see them though.
We walked the trail and saw a songthrush feeding a youngster and nesting rooks making a lot of noise.
