Opiemme Mural

Most of the day will be spent in Łódź before we move out to the wedding reception venue, a hotel outside of the city. It is quite common to have hotels that do weddings at the weekends and business conferences during the week. Up at just after 8 and down to breakfast before heading back to the room to pack the few things.

After the twins and I walk around Park Staromiejski. The first thing that caught my eye was this mural by Italian artist Opiemme, created as part of the 4 Cultures Urban Art festival in 2017. I later find it is part of a much bigger piece of work by the artist. Also in the park is the sundial, Extra 1, (Zegar słoneczny). Not much about it. It has a plaque which says it was a project realised between 1973 and 1975. We head back to Manufaktura, which I try to get a decent photo of the main sign. Extra 3 was taken after about 12 attempts. In the complex, behind Starbucks (one ofthe places, along with Costa, which I didn't visit), was this typewriter seat for selfies. The text above says 'I'm from Lodz'.

After this short walk, I head back to the hotel (free coffee), and the boys head in to Manufaktura to do some shopping. We had already ascertained that the Samsung and Sony shops do not offer any real bargains, it's cheaper in the uk. However they have spotted some t-shirt shops that do not, due to Brexit, export to the uk. The whole family meets up at lunchtime for lunch in an Italian café.

After lunch, I go with my daughter, her husband and son, to the Palace. One of the grand buildings built in Łódź to impress the then King of Poland. Now it is a museum covering the history of Łódź through the Industrial revolution and the 20th Century.

After we all meet at the hotel and we all head out to Nowy Adamow to the wedding hotel. It is busy with several wedding receptions, but there is a restaurant attached to the hotel where we can all get an evening meal, which includes the bride's family and friends. The bride, and her parents, of course, aren't here. A fairly early night to bed.

I do manage to get some sleep, despite load music playing until 4am. It's likely the wedding reception tomorrow will be just as late.
