MEMORIAL DAY

In the U.S., Memorial Day is typically celebrated on a Monday...usually the last Monday of May.

The Village of Elkhart Lake chooses to have its ceremony on the Saturday before to take advantage of the  fact that many people will be out of town on Memorial Day proper as it's a three day holiday.

Today, Elkhart Lake celebrated Memorial Day with an excellent program of remembrances of all the fallen Americans who gave the ultimate sacrifice in war.

Guest Speaker Major General Timothy M. Zadalis, USAF (Ret.), patriotic selections by the high school band and chorus, a poetry reading by a high school student and the ceremonial firing of rifle volleys by the Greenbush American Legion and the playing of Taps.

And the weather was warm and sunny but not hot and here was no rain. It was a beautiful ceremony.

The Village of Glenbeulah celebrates on Memorial Day, next Monday. I will cover that ceremony for the local papers as well.
