Snakey

The Australian Darter is sometimes called the Snake Bird, because of its long sinuous snake-like neck. I photographed this one on the shore of North Creek in Ballina. This is a male. The female is paler in colour, especially under the neck and on the breast - see Birdlife Australia webpage.
