Orchids

Lesser Butterfly Orchid  ( Platanthera bifolia )
Wild orchid today in contrast to the cultivated one yesterday.
These are just beginning to open on the lower slopes of Arnside Knott.
There is also a good patch of Fly orchids.
There are also Fly orchids on the grassed over roof of the underground reservoir in the wood. Three days ago as they were just about to come into flower staff from the North West Water authority came and strimmed the whole area. Very tidy but goodbye biodiversity. Letters of protest are being written but will they be remembered next year ? Preserving all the special things we have is a constant battle.
