Time for Engagement
The daughter of my ex next-door neighbour Alison got engaged a few months ago but because of Covid was only now able to throw a party to celebrate. We went along tonight. It was in the Jar Bar on Wexford Street, in the third-floor garden bar. We'd been warned in advance that the music tends to be loud and gets even louder as it gets later. The warnings were accurate.
We had a good time, actually, but gave up shortly after 10 because it was really, really noisy. Back on the street we needed to call a taxi back to Carl's place. We got one okay, but not as quick as we would have liked. The atmosphere on the street was uncomfortable, with people misbehaving ridiculously. One instance in particular really upset me — a couple were shooting a video selfie and doing so by dancing backwards in the middle of the street with taxis and other cars passing them by non-stop. Reckless behaviour, really. I felt desperately uncomfortable and was relieved when a taxi stopped, we got in and were whisked away from it all.
We'll think twice before we return to the city at night-time.
