"Borrowed landscape"

Learnt a new gardening phrase this afternoon when a member of Scotland’s Japanese society pointed out how our garden benefits from
shakkei, “ borrowed landscape”.
She pointed to our neighbour’s brilliant display of azaleas and rhododendrons, which acts as background to our predominantly green garden.
Yes, it was another successful Open Gardens day. And yes we are both shattered now, indulging in a glass or two of wine, a rare event for me since I am almost a tee-totaller.
Good to hear the allotments attracted a lot of interest from many people now growing their own fruit and vegetables. Among the allotment holders is BBC Radio Scotland presenter Nicola Meaghan and she often mentions it on her programme.
