Fayre

Slowish start over pancakes for breakfast, then we set off to Innerleithen to the medieval fayre at Traquair House. Lots to see….full of people who clearly would prefer to live in medieval times, making all their clothes and recreating battles and cooking the food. Very friendly vibe though, and AR loved having a go at the crafts (especially the willow weaving). The canons were way too loud, but good to see archery and falconry and the town executioners showing us all the punishments that used to be handed out…grim! Mx wasn’t too keen to join the children’s army (turned out he thought the opposing army of grown ups would be properly armed!) but then loved it when he saw the foam sticks! He also loved the jousting and kept making lances from sticks and charging at us.
Only downside was the shortage of food outlets (we’d not brought a picnic as we assumed they’d be loads of food trucks etc) and of toilets, so some long queues. We were lucky with the weather though and we had no tantrums, so it was a successful day.
Home, all feeling pretty tired after our late night last night, so we watched an Attenborough documentary about ichthyosaurs then gave them supper and got them into bed. A made some pasta and I added a slow cooked tomato sauce and we had ours then slumped on the sofas for a while before an earlyish night.
