Springtime - Brrrrrr!
It’s cold and wet, I’m still wearing thermals for heavens sake!
I did manage to weed a raised bed in between showers and repot 2 weary tomato plants - luckily I have 4 nice bushy ones upstairs on the spare room windowsill with lots of flowers on.
I still feel tired today after my ‘wild’ weekend!
I used the resting time to phone another friend in Dumfries - Liz - who I haven’t spoken to since Christmas, she is about 10 years older than me and recovering from Covid but we had a good chat and a giggle. We worked together as nurses and she was always up to mischief - pole dancing round a drip stand, speaking in code when the boss was coming close, and teasing young doctors - but an incredibly good and caring nurse.
After lunch I phoned Sue and we had a good chinwag too.
I must confess, the poem is one I wrote ages ago but I have revised it as I came across it and wanted to have it in my 2022 collection.
It’s a sad one :-(
A MURDER OF CROWS
I saw a farmer, with gun aimed high
Shoot a crow out of the sky and,
Wings flapping, it tumbled to earth.
It saddened me to my very core
And then, he aimed and shot two more.
Without a care that farmer strode,
Picked up their lifeless bodies, while
Above, the others circled and squawked.
And watched him toss their kin in his cart
This horrid scene broke my heart.
I thought about it in bed that night
And mourned the poor birds' lost lives.
It's Springtime, the birds have paired
Chicks are in the nests they built
And the farmer? He'll bear no guilt.
Goodnight Blip friends
:-)x
