The Lion

Wrong will be right, when Aslan comes in sight,
At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more,
When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death,
And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again...
CS Lewis, The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe

Up to Cork city today as I was duty driver for Himself who had an eye appointment that may or may not have involved drops. Whilst he was being seen to I wandered into University College Cork (UCC) to have a browse around the Honan Chapel , closed last time I went due to a massive restoration and clean up. It was looking sensational. The Chapel opened in 1916 just after the Easter Rising and the Battle of the Somme and at the beginning of  a movement known as the Celtic Revival. It is in Hiberno-Romanesque style and is a jewel. The entire floor is covered in astonishing mosaics , the River of Life flows down towards the altar and elsewhere  exotic animals and birds entwine, rich in Celtic symbolism.  It is marvellous to behold.  There was of course a lion, looking magnificent - a bit of a shame to reduce him to mono so you get the colour version too, and a collage of different part of the floor.  I was very taken by the squirrel and the ox taking a drink. And all these riches before I even mention the windows, each one a glowing masterpiece by Harry Clarke depicting the major Irish saints.
In the event, no drops were required so we ended the day with a trip to B&Q ghastly and Dunnes slightly less ghastly. Beans on toast for supper!
