Superbloom at the Tower

Today I went with a friend to the Royal Palaces Member Preview Day of the Superbloom at the Tower of London. The moat area has been filled with new soil ( 11,000 tons) and 20 million seeds have been sown - 15 different seed mixes containing a total of 29 different species. Unfortunately due to the lack of rain and chilly weather in April and May they are not blooming as well as intended just yet. But the flowering mix is planned to last until September so in about a month hopefully there will be a better display. I booked tickets ages ago and was  emailed last week to say I could have a refund or/ and revisit again later which I intend to do. The main flowers out at present seemed to be some alliums, marigolds, toadflax, Namaqualand daisies and Californian poppies. However the poppies were not as big as mine on the allotment.
There is a big slide, see extra, which you can go down! Apparently this was previously at Cliveden.
You will be able to see a partial view without paying to go in I think and a cheaper ticket to go along a raised walkway rather than down in the actual garden.  There is also lots of new artwork relating to the flowers and the Tower in Tower Hill Underground station.
It was not very busy in the flower area which is separate from the rest of the Tower area, however the actual Tower of London which we went into briefly was very busy with a very very long queues to see the Crown Jewels so we did not stay there long. Lots of tourists and many with children as it’s half term.

After we went to St Katherine’s Dock for a nice lunch and saw the Royal Barge moored there. A downpour while in the restaurant but managed to avoid the rain before and after.
